| Yokan (2004 re-construct)/予感 (2004 re-construct) translation |
[ Sat | 08/12/06 | 2:17pm ] |
Hello all. I'm back after a long, long hiatus. I just had a random urge to translate something. Go figure. So I chose Yokan by Sakurai Atsushi. This song has a strange power.
The title means Premonition.
---
It's beyond dark here and so very cold And now I recall that brief time I embraced this small body that has a scent of powder And broke down into tears
While feeling your lips I have a premonition with you Of the arrival of the rose's death
Do you recall my tear-stained face that day? Can you hear my crying voice?
This maddening body melts into you I predict the arrival of the rose's death
While feeling your lips I have a premonition with you Of the arrival of the rose's death Your maddening body melts into me I have a premonition I want to return I want to return
---
Note: I have absolutely no idea what is going on with the grammar in the 'I have a premonition with you' to 'rose's death' line. Seriously. I have no clue what he is saying really, so I just arranged the words so they made what seemed like the most sense. The grammar (or lack of it?) baffles me.

Buck-Tick - 女神 (OLODCU live) |

It's been a while, I know. Ok, more than a while, but here you go. :D
---
Become the devil The innocent sheep are intoxicated Holding your wings above your head Expand the empty darkness
Trans Confess Siphon off your desires Your void of a heart breaks open
Turn your back to the sun In the asylum garden you walked Time has stopped The black shadow is beside you
Continue arguing Although it is always pure You'll make up for it You are seized by meaning and the like
Trash Destroy your evil memory of your intentions Like an insect your body falls in love
Turn your back to the sun In the asylum garden you walked Time has stopped The black shadow is beside you
Turn your back to the sun In the asylum garden you walked Time has stopped The black shadow is beside you
The black-coloured light and the sunflower on the canvas The black-coloured light and the cypress on the canvas The black-coloured light and the self-portrait on the canvas
The self-portrait on the canvas
---
Note: I'm convinced the last lines are a reference to Van Gogh, the famous Dutch painter who cut off his own ear. He did paintings involving sunflowers and cypresses (though not together). This makes the self-portrait altogether more sinister: he did it with his cut off ear bandaged. The song could either in fact be about or inspired by the life of Van Gogh, or the reference could just be thrown in for delightfully eerie effect.

Title means "Secret room". As usual, some artistic license has had to be taken. Also as usual, others have probably translated this; I do it because I enjoy it, and share it in case anyone wants to see. The line in [square brackets] was spoken, and was not in the official lyrics.
---
I want to feel you There is nothing I desire here, ahh, nothing
I want to take you away completely No one will hinder us, ahh, no one Even if you won't hear it from my hated mouth Ahh, nevertheless, I need you
I know your pain, all my joy is in you So stay beside me, smiling Into your wounds my love overflows So stay here, and please don't cry
Be mine alone
[ There is nothing ... nothing ]
I want to seclude you somewhere Always in my heart, ahh you are Someday you will understand my feelings Ahh, all this about you
I know your pain, all my joy is in you So stay beside me, smiling Into your wounds my love overflows So stay here, and please don't cry
Be mine alone
In ugliness I always sing songs of compassion So stay beside me, smiling In my ugliness my love always overflows So stay here, and please don't cry
Be mine alone
Ahh... nothing, there is nothing Ahh... nothing to hope for.

Well, I've finally cracked it... sort of. I've taken far more 'artistic license' in this song than I would have liked, so take it with a pinch of salt; I'm not claiming complete accuracy, but it's understandable and it semi-works.
:D In any case, enjoy.
Like sparklingai, I chose to translate 夢魔 as "incubus" instead of "nightmare" because, while it can mean "nightmare", it's not the usual word for it and the alternate meaning is "incubus/succubus/demon seen in a dream". I chose "incubus" because there is no suggestion of anything female in the song as far as I can see, and "demon seen in a dream" is rather too long and clunky for my tastes. Hence, "Incubus -The Nightmare-".

The vast tundra lands My own soul clothed in death Can wander through the Underworld My own soul that dies in a scandalous scene
I chase the spirits of the dead And run beside a madman
The sky of the midnight sun My own soul dyed blood red Can wander through the Underworld My own soul that dies in a scandalous scene
I shed tears of nostalgia And cry out beside a blind man
The aurora across the whole sky My own soul cut into pieces Can wander through the Underworld My own soul that dies in a scandalous scene
I chase an imaginary phantom And run beside a madman
The vast tundra lands My own soul clothed in death Can wander through the Underworld My own soul that dies in a scandalous scene
I dream of you And scream beside a blind man
[ The vast tundra lands My own soul clothed in death The sky of the midnight sun My own soul dyed blood red The aurora across the whole sky My own soul cut into pieces Can wander through the Underworld My own soul that dies in a scandalous scene ] x 2

Now, this one I know has been done before. Regardless... I had to. A personal thing. Enjoy.
The title means "embryo".

Hey mom, tonight it's goodbye I awaken in your blood On this beach of amniotic fluid In high spirits, I am here
I fly around beyond the stardust Beautiful in decay Hundreds of thousands of deaths And a song of brilliant, sparkling love
On the horizon I repair my body These wings become soaked Loneliness is the final limitation
I love you, tonight I fly away I love you, the rain and wind will not defeat me I love you, a person is hurt but goes on living I love you...
Somebody will be destroyed completely It is the worst feeling Without leaving any trace, One and all, everyone
Hey... hey God, If I drink dry all your crimson wine Will I be able to finally see something?
I merely committed an error There is no womb I can return home to And so, full of pride, let's go!
I love you, tonight I fly away I love you, the rain and wind will not defeat me I love you, a person is hurt but goes on living I love you, tonight I fly away
Soaring in the updrafts, into uncertainty As far as the distant heights My wings melt away, in the sky they melt away
This world that is beyond dazzling shivers And my heartbeat sings
I love you, this sky is beyond vast I love you, when I am alone it is beyond vast I love you, this sky is beyond blue I love you, when I am alone it is beyond blue I love you, this sky is beyond blue

Buck-Tick - 楽園 (祈り 希い) |

Just in case no one has done this before, I have here for you all a translation of "Rakuen". If they have... well, sorry for the repetition, but I did it for my own benefit anyway. I discovered this song... perhaps yesterday? and became deeply haunted by it. I needed to know what it meant. So tonight (instead of doing my Russian homework ._.;) I translated it. I am in awe...
Firstly, the title. Rakuen (楽園) is most usually translated as paradise, but its component kanji, 楽 and 園, literally mean "pleasure" and "garden", and in the context of the lyrics, I can't help but feel it's at least partly an allusion to the Biblical story of Eden. Here you go.
Edit: The second part of the title, 祈り 希い, means Prayer Wish.

The country of love; this place is paradise People in love embrace each other Eternity, of course, can be summoned like spring
The soil of love; a paradise of petals Experience peace and continue to multiply What more than this could you wish for?
An unknown town, unknown people The shedding of blood, eyes filled with grief In this place is the story of a dream
On the television, in bitter voices They talk endlessly; a melodrama As I carelessly pretended to show tears, and closed my eyes
The children of God kill each other in the garden of love As I, with an air of indifference, watch this dream
The country of love; this place is paradise With love they console each other The often similar faces laugh at each other
An incurable disease in the sound of gunfire With love they wound each other What more than that could you wish for?
The kind father and mother Burned the vast land with black rain As I carelessly pretended to show tears, and closed my eyes
The children of God love each other in the garden of love As I, with an air of indifference, watch this dream The children of God kill each other in the garden of love As I, with an air of indifference, am here.

Note: Of course some artistic license had to be taken where grammatical structures simply would not fit sensibly into English, for instance translating "kono ore" and "kono boku" as "As I..." instead of "This me".
